PinkNews

Social Media Executive (June 2022 - Nov 2023)

Overview

In my one and a half years of working with PinkNews in the Audience team, I have:

  • helped grow 250k+ followers (around 5-6 % growth rate) across social media platforms such as Instagram, X(formerly Twitter), Facebook, Threads.
  • curated and created 4000+ content posts across Instagram accounts and X(formerly Twitter), excluding link tweet schedules and Instagram stories.
  • covered LIVE LGBTQ+ events for social media such as Pride and PinkNews Awards, achieved viral moments, and drove impressions of over 1 million across platforms.
  • planned, pitched and successfully launched 'PN Pride For All' rebrand covering global Pride and LGBTQ+ rights news beyond a UK/US-centric lens. Produced 150+ original news posts for the account.

Content Curation

From the numerous videos and articles produced by the production and editorial team, I have curated and created posts that work best for the PinkNews social media audience and which would drive the most impressions and engagements.

Breaking News

My journalistic background ensured that I was able to jump onto any breaking news as soon as they are published on the website and swiftly post it on social media first before our competitors and even mainstream media.  One of my notable achievements was covering the breaking news of Club Q Colorado Shooting for social media with 40+ content in the form of grid posts and stories as soon as there was an update about the case from the editorial team. We were leading in this coverage compared to any other LGBTQ+ publications as well as mainstream media.

Original Content

With my project to pitch and rebrand one of PinkNews' Instagram accounts  (PN Pride for All),  I helped expand the global LGBTQ+ news coverage at the media organisation beyond a UK/US-centric lens. I not only compiled the global news trends for the editorial team daily but also delivered original global LGBTQ+ content in the form of social media posts, carousels, articles, and news videos.

Design Briefs

Collaborating with the Design team, I used to communicate proficiently and provide comprehensive briefs for social media graphics, ensuring clear articulation of brand guidelines, objectives, creative direction and visual expectations. These were specifically for awareness days and other noteworthy events. Here are some of the graphics/animations produced as a result:

National Student Pride

Social Media Strategist (2022-23), Social Media Officer (2021-22)

Overview

I was part of the Media team of the National Student Pride committee for 2 years. Within my 2 roles, I have

  • strategically used analytics tools to measure the performance of previous digital content, events, and social media campaigns to make data-driven decisions and refine our approach for the current festival.
  • initiated an in-depth competitor analysis, pinpointing areas for improvement and innovative strategies to implement.
  • analysed user engagement, trends, and audience behaviour to formulate actionable social media campaigns that aligned with our organizational goals and vision.
  • created a social media campaign for university societies' takeover that led to a remarkable surge in ticket sales, with 50+ tickets bought on the first day and substantial growth after, even in our online community.
  • conducted interviews with award winners and festival participants and spearheaded our LIVE event coverage across all our social media platforms, resulting in remarkable levels of engagement.

Societies Takeover Campaign

One of the campaigns I worked on for the 2022 festival was the LGBTQ+ societies takeover. This was initiated to outreach to more queer students and allies and help them see why the Student Pride events, LGBTQ+ career fair, and inclusive spaces provided at the festival would benefit them by broadcasting perspectives directly from fellow students like them. The campaign also aimed at collaborating with UK colleges and universities and encouraging more group festival ticket sales.

The campaign produced results such as a spike in page views, 50+ tickets bought to the festival, and an equal number of social media followers on the first day of the campaign, which substantially increased per day until the day of the festival.

LIVE Festival Coverage

During the festival weekends, I always played a multifaceted role. Alongside supporting campaign initiatives and conducting interviews with award winners and festival participants, I spearheaded our LIVE event coverage on Instagram and Twitter, which resulted in remarkable levels of engagement. The real-time updates helped encapsulate the festival's spirit, making a significant contribution to the overall success of the event.

University of Hertfordshire, Herts SU and other projects

In my student leader roles in the University of Hertfordshire, Herts Student Union and societies, I have promoted events and information through social media as well as done LIVEs, interviews and social media takeovers.

In my university projects as well as beyond, I have used social media marketing to outreach to wider audience for the content and drive engagement.
